May 1 — 7 is spinal health week At any given time one in every three Canadians is suffering from back pain. It could be a mild condition caused by posture or serious injury resulting from a work ac- cident. But a major propor- tion of those cases could be prevented if Cana- dians were more aware of how their spines work, said Dale Green- wood, Terrace chiro- practor. May | to 7 will be Spinal Health Week in Canada, and during that time the Canadian Chiropractic Association (CCA) will be spreading the message that when it . comes to your back, knowledge is strength. *‘Canadians make more than five million visits to chiropractors every year,’ said Green- wood. *‘Many of these cases could have been avoided,’’ he added, ‘‘if, for instance, spinal checks had been done earlier in life, if in- dividuals were more con- scious of the limitations of their spine, and of the many ways they could prevent illness and in- jury.”? Normally, when you begin exercise, the heart has to work harder to deliver more biood to the working muscles. The a 6heart itself needs more oxygen and, hence, more 1 blood. This is accom- § plished when the arteries WM ALTHE Los, so! Cc, 5 ry * to the heart muscle simply dilate, allowing a larger amount of bloodto circulate to the working heart muscle. Curry contended that regional population is not adequate to support two major alpine developments, and he said that studies done by the Smithers Ski Corp. indicate an immediate | drop of 25 percent in the trade at Hudson's Bay Mountain if an opera- tion of comparable scale opens at Shames. Curry added that his company has no objections to community ski hills such as Kitsumkalum Moun- tain and the proposed development at Gunsight Peak near Lakelse Lake because the smaller facilities don’t compete directly with the Smithers operation. ‘It’s going to take us five years to get rid of our debt load. Give us a chance to get on our feet, and then there would be no problem,” he said.
