Guest speaker Rod- rigue Landry captivated his audience, sharing his views of the major trends im- pacting the francophone community. These trends include, for example, the growing rate of exogamy (intercultural families, 87% in British Columbia), the low rate of enrolment of eligible students in francophone schools (22% in BC), and the falling rate of linguistic continuity (however, this rate has remained steady in our province at .30 since 1971). Among other items, Mr. Landry called upon each of us to support a so- cietal project that he referred to as cul- tural autonomy in an effort to ensure the <= sustainability of francophony in Canada. This concept underscores the import- ance of early learning and education to the future of our francophone way of life. The discussions following his presentation were most interesting. Many parents and community partners suggested a num- ber of ideas for actions in their environ- ment, in their school community, that would make a positive contribution fo francophony. A copy of Mr. Landry's presentation is online at the Federation website. Click on the FPFCB tab and select Congres et AGA. Mr, Landry's PowerPoint presenta- tion, along with presentations by other facilitators and speakers, is also avail- able. Lastly, we must congratulate the André-Piolat parents’ association for win- ning the 2010-2011 APE of the Year award during the 2011 FPFCB conference. Also, for the first time this year, the Teacher of the Year award went to Josyane Testa, preschoo! educator at Des petits pas in mission, a school-based preschool at Ecole des Deux-Rives. Congratulations, all! Preparations are already underway for the 2012 conference and annual general meeting, which will take place at Jules-Verne school in Vancouver on November 23 and 24, 2012. Mark your calendars! We hope you enjoy this issue of Parenthése! Marie-Andrée Asselin, FPFCB Executive Director
