812 - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, June 12, 2002 Minor league heating up THE MONTH of June sig- nats the second half of the Junior Baseball season, Saturday June | kicked off Weck 6 action, wilh a match up between Kins- men and Terrace and Dis- trict Credit Union (TDCU). TDCU got off toa de- cent slurt, going up 5-2 after the first inning and keeping the lead through the third. But Kinsmen started creeping back with a run in the fourth and one in the fifth. The sixth inning, where TDCU led 5-4, proved to be the difference. In the top of the stanza, Kinsmen pounded home four runs. With two runners on base, Kinsmen’s Ryland Findlay hit a double to score two runs. After Calen Findlay was walked, Scott Vander- lee batted in both of the Findlay brothers with an- other double. Down 8-5 heading into the botiom of the sixth, TDCU was only able to re- spond with two. It was a close and dra- matic finish where defense was key, but Kinsmen came out on top 8-7. Sunday, June 2 saw Speedee dump TDCU bya score of 17-13. The game was full of offence in the first three innings with the score 12- 10 for TDCU heading into the fourth. But Speedee scored five, while T.D.C.U. re- sponded with only one. Speedee shut out their opponents the rest of the way and went on to win by four runs. Tuesday, June 4 was a thriller between Kinsmen and Speedee. Speedee was on top first with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Both teams went three up, three down in the sec- ond, but in the third Kins- men scored four to take the lead. They scored four more in the fourth, while Spee- dee picked up one. In the fifth, with the score 8-4 for Kinsmen, Speedee’s Codey Latimer shut down the top af Kins- men’s batting order with three strikeouts. In the bottom of that in- ning, Speedee scored four to tie the game. In the seventh, Codey Sitnicecoshatn AT THE DIAMOND TYLER NOBLE Lalimer sat the first three batters in the top of the inning, this time with two strikeouts and a fly ball to the shortstop. Speedec had a good chance to take the contest, but a fly ball and ground out to the first two batters forced a two-out rally. Tanner Noble was up to the plate and drove a sin- gle to left field, After stealing second base, Noble advanced to third ona passed ball. After Robert Glaser walked, Cadey. Latimer slepped up to the plate looking to score the win- ning run. But he didn’t even need to swing the bat — a wild pitch allowed Nable to ea- sily score from third and win the game. Speedee cut it down to - the wire, but came through with a 9-8 walk-off victory against Kinsmen. Wednesday saw Kins- men defeat 11-8 in a fairly dull game, with lots of walks for both teams. The final game of Week 6 saw Specdee go down 7-0 after three in- nings to TDCU. Two in the fourth and four in the fifth allowed them to narrow the gap to 8-6, with a chance in the sixth to tie the game. With runners at second . and third and none out, Speedee was in need of a single to score the runners. But TDCU pitcher Craig Schultz taok control by freezing the next three batters on their third strike. Both the runners were left on base, heading into the bottom of the sixth, where TDCU picked up one.
