The 17th season of the Vancouver Francophone Sum- mer Festival: Keep your ears and your eyes peeled! Remember Montreal in the mid-70s, when a whole new generation joined the chorus of artists who were singing about a new society? At the time, Montreal was preparing to host the Summer Olympics of 1976. That year, just before the Games opened, an unforgettable St.-Jean-Baptiste day festival called “One times Five” was held on Mount Royal, bringing together five of Quebec's greatest contemporary artists. One of these was Robert Charlebois, who since the late 60s had taken the Quebec public by storm, with his unabashed lyrics in the “joual” dialect, set to rock music that was on par with the best of the era. Now the count down has started for Vancouver's own preparations to host the 2010 Winter Olympics. Reminiscent of Montreal in 1976, we are going to bring back Robert Charlebois, more of a rocker than ever, for a memorable show featuring all his greatest hits from the 60s and 70s. Please join us on Saturday, June 17th to share and remember one of the high points of Fran- cophone culture in Canada, on our outdoor stage on West 7th Avenue. But we will also prove that we are living in the present! True to the Festival’s artistic mission of presenting the very best of up and coming performers as well as established artists on the Francophone music scene, this time the great Charlebois show will open with Quebe c's most contemporary stars - the band Les Trois Accords - winners of the recent ADISQ competition. The 17th season of the Festival promises even more surprises. Don’t miss any of them! Keep your ears and your eyes peeled and check out our web site for more information.
