Subject: Pedestrian Crosswalk - Wellington & Patricia

Recommendation:

Install a pedestrian Crosswalk as requested at Wellington and
Patricia adjacent to Terry Fox High School.

Background & Comments:

A letter from the principal of Terry Fox High School was sent to
the Engineering Dept. requesting that two crosswalks be installed
at the corner of Wellington and Patricia. (Letter attached)
Gurrently there are existing x-walks across Wellington at Laurier
and Lincoln to serve approx. 1000 Students attending grades 11 &
1Z at the high school. The existing sidewalk on Wellington is on
the west side from Lincoln to Prairie and on the east side in.
front of the school only. There is an existing bus stop north of
Patricia on the west side of Wellington, Students cross
Wellington at Patricia to access this bus stop. See attached
sketch for location.

Proposed Solution:

Fatricia west of Wellington is currently a major pedestrian
generator for the High School and must cross Wellington at this
point. Placing a crosswalk at’ this location will serve student
access to the school and students from the school to the bus
Stop. The walk would also have a higher degree of safety for
those students with physical disabilities that currently attend

the high school. A crosswalk on Patricia is not required due to
the light traffic from the existing residential area,
