Page 6, THE HERALD, Friday, August 25, 1978 Smith sets World Record WEST BERLIN (CP) — Graham Smith of Edmonton set a world record Thursday and put the Canadian team into orbit at the world _ aquatics championship that had a single day of swim- ming unseen in the world or Olyrapie competition. Five finals were raced and five world records were set. Smith, 20, broke the record in the men’s 200-metre in- dividual medley race by clocking two minutes 3.56 seconds and beating the two men that had bettered his 1977 record this year. Alexander Sidorenko of the Soviet Union, who set a record in the event Jast July, could finish no better than third.
