SITE OBSERVATIONS The section of Salisbury between Oxford and the school was observed on Tuesday, January 3, 1989 from 8:00am to 9:00am. The follawing was noted: ~ 83 student pedestrians were counted on Salisbury. — 1 driver dropped off a student at the end of Salisbury. ~ 15 drivers dropped off students on Oxford at the entrance to Salisbury. SOLUTION OPTIONS 4 The root problem is that the drivers desire a drop aff point that is very close to the school door. Using Salisbury is indeed very close, and the drivers are willing to put up with the difficult turn around maneuver to have this Glosd access. . Three options to consider are: 1. Install a ‘local residents oanly’ sign. I would not recommend this however, as these signs, although presently used in the City, are not official traffic control devices. For this reason they cannot be placed by bylaw and enforced through sec. 120 of the Motor Vehicle Act. | 7 Have someone from the school wait at the end of Salisbury for a few mornings. These people could ask the drivers that are still dropping off students at the end of Salisbury, not to do so. Construct a drop-off loop on school praperty, off of Flint Street. If the loop was situated. close to the school building and- convenient to enter. and exit, many drivers would likely use it instead of Salisbury. Construct a drop-off leces an school property at the end Salisbury. Drivers could. continue to use Salisbury, would net have to back up to turn around.— ee We
