THE “ORPORATION OF THE CIT TO: FROM: JF PORT COQUITLAM MEMO Igor Zahynacz, P.Eng. Ja ary 10, 31 City Engineer Russ Mammel, A.Sc.T. Project/Traffic Tech. SUBJECT: Simon Fraser Health Unit Parking Request. RECOMMENDATION: Turn down the request for Simon Fraser Health Unit staff to park at no charge in the ‘permit only' parking lot adjacent to their building. Request for Free Use of the Wilson Parking Lot This parkirg lot is reserved for monthly permit holders, but is mostly empty as only a few permits are out. The reasons stated by the Health Unit for wanting to park in this lot are: - Parking is difficult to find in the six hour zones. - When parking in the 3 hour zones, staff has to remembér to move their cars to avoid parking tickets. - Staff has to park a fair distance away, sometimes carrying equipment to the office. Wilson 'Permit Only' Parking Lot This parking lot is treated as a private lot and does not come under the Traffic Regulations Bylaw. Parking in this lot is by permit only, and usually has about three of its 33 spaces reserved. When the permit parking was originally put in place, 24 of the spaces were reserved, mostly by nearby companies for their employee:, At this time, there was obviously an need for this type of parking, ::d a modest income waS generated for the City. Since then, the reserved .vaces Fave gradually decreased, to the point where the lot is virtually wursed. This parking lot will eventually be used for the future expans3..1 of ‘he Health Unit. 4 ITEM | PAGE
