SUBJECT: Paving the training area . and in front of the fire hall. RECOMMENDATION : That the paving and training area be paved at an estimated. cost of $29,000 and that the source of funding for the paving be: Transfer from Fire Hall Renovations $ 5,200- Previously budgeted $17,000 From Future Capital Reserve $_ 6,800 $29,000 BACKGROUND & COMMENTS: —— The ‘request for the 1986 budget was for paving of Number 1 Fire Hall parking lot for use as a training area, and a bandshell drafting pit. For budget purposes, a ‘ballpark' figure of $10,000.00 was given for paving -the training area. and $7,000.00 for the bandshell drafting pit, for a total ' - ef $173,000.00. During the winter of 1985 - 1986, the blacktop in front of the truck bays deteriorated badly, then in April 1986 the main water service to the fire hall that travels under the area broke and had to be replaced. Prior to this, the sidewalk to the main entrance of the fire hall, that was already in disrepair, was broken by the roofers and had to be removed. When looking at the overall picture, it became more of a priority to have the area in front of the truck bays and offices paved at the same time as the training area, than having the bandshell drafting pit. It seemed reasonable to me that if the large training area cost $10,000.00 to pave, then the area in front of the truck bays and offices could be done for $7,000.00. Continued Page 2... LAIN
