From the Parks and Recreation Committee, June 27th, 1980 regarding ‘Parks & Rec oy /B0 June the Fraser Valley Zone Figure Skating Championships and recommending 27/80 re Figure Skating that the Port Coquitlam Figure Skating Club be permitted to host the ‘Championships Fraser Valley Zone Championships. Moved by Alderman Keryluk: Seconded by Alderman Gates: That as recommended by the Parks and Recreation Committee, June 27th, 1980 the Port Coquitlam Figure Skating Club be permitted to host the Traser Valley Zone Championships November 21st to 23rd, 1980; AND THAT charges be waived for the ice and room usage. Carried. Mr. and Mrs. G. Humphries of the Port Coquitlam Figure Skating Club were present. Alderman Wright advised he would not be participating in the discussion on the next agenda item regarding the request for rate increase for the British Columbia Telephone Company. Discussion was held regarding Council's opposition to the rate increases during which time Alderman Keryluk suggested the City have a brief prepared to present to the C.R.T.C. and Alderman Traboulay stated in his opinion a letter should be prepared advising the C.R.T.C. of Council's opposition to.the proposed rate increase due to the poor service and the rate groupings. Further discussion was held and Council concurred with the suggestion that Mayor Laking appear at a Regional Meeting of the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunicstions Commission to advise of the Council's opposition to the proposed rate increase. Alderman Wright left the Council Chamber at 9:48 p.m. foved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Keryluk: That Mayor G.R. Laking appear before a Regional Meeting of the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission to advise of the Council's opposition to the proposed rate increase. Carried.
