Thursday, June 15 « Melonai Brisdon *8pm Studio 16, Maison de la Francophonie (1551, West 7th Avenue) * Tickets: $10 members / $15 non-members - Seniors and students 10% discount Born in Manitoba, Melonai Brisdon was trained as a Classical pianist and singer, before going on stage in various festivals and competitions in her home province and in British Columbia. Her many performances in various places have helped her refine her technique and have broad- ened her horizons. Accompanied by flautist and musical director Davidian Chorley, a percussionist and a guitarist, Melonai brings us jazz classics and traditional French-Canadian songs, enlivened with her own brand of funk and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Her lyrics, in French and English, reflect our bilingual nation. Today Melonai Brisdon lives in Vancouver. Her performances never fail to charm her audiences. She is a three-time winner of the B.C. Gala provincial de la chanson (Provincial Francophone Music Festival). In addition, the fans’ prize that she won in 1997 is a testimony to the great respect she has earned from the Fran- cophone and Francophile audiences of Vancouver. Melonai is working on a new release, called “Afroditez”, a mod- ern blend of various folklores, and in particular Francophone folklore from across Canada. At the Summer Festival, Melonai will bring us a show composed of various musical styles and rhythms. Join the party!
