housing. Piagnosing and making adjustments or repairs to these
Types of brakes takes considerably longer than the "st cam Type
as specified. Unfortunately "s" cam types are not available in
The vehicle offered by Totem. There is, however, a compromise.
Totem can supply, as an option, dise brakes for the front

wheels. it is our opinion that the optional disc brakes are
Just as effective as the other types of brakes in terms of
performance. In terms of maintenance costs, the disc brakes

are expected to be much lower. The quoted additional cost trom
Totem for these disc brakes is $659.85 including taxes.

On the basis of the foregoing we recommend that the tender
for the dump truck be awarded to Totem Mercury, the lowest
bidder, in the amount of $72,415.75 including the extra cost of
the optional disc brakes for the front wheels. The approved
budget for this dump truck is $80,G00.

Would you please arrange to have Council's approval to
award this tender as soon as possible. We have been advised by
Totem that on S-utember 7, 1987 a pbre-scheduled price increase
on the dump trucks will be in effect.
