TO: The Mayor and Members of Council GVRD Member Municipalities : GVRD Electoral Area Directors JUN 29 1987. W.T. Lane Commissioner - Regional Development Final Consideration of the GVRD's Role in Economic Development June 10 198] The GVRD Planning Committee received the attached report at its June meeting. The Committee asked that: s the report be circulated to ali member councils for consideration. all’member councils indicate, by resoiution, whether they suppor or oppose option 3, in which the GVRD Planning Department would on the key reactive role of collecting, organizing, printing and distributing region-wide information. T + v the responses be forwarded to the GVRD early enough to allow the Committee to veconsider thé proposal at its August meeting. Preliminary estimates indicate that the preparation of the suggested documents would require approximately one person year of effort plus production and prvating costs for a total of $50-60,000. In subsequent years, keeping the informatix- up to date and answering questions from interested businesses would likely require an on-going commitment of half a person year at a cost of $30,000 in 1981 dollars. This is considerably beiow the Task Force estimates of $186 - 245,000 per year ‘for an economic development functicn, but the Task Force recommended a 3 - 4 person department with a wider mandate. Please contact me or Kenneth Cameron if you have any questions on this amtter. Letters outlining the stance of member councils should be forwarded to Mr. Cameron's attention by July 24, 1981 for inclusion in the Planning Committee's agenda materia).
