. That as recommended in a report ‘from the Public Works Committee, December 7th,

1973, a. “Fequest be. forwarded to the: Provincial and Federal authorities outlining .
the following required assistance estimated to cost $35,000.00 to $40;000.00:

1. the funds expended by the City in June, 1972 to provide emergency pumping

for Cedar Ditch be reimbursed ;

2. . portable pumps of sufficient capacity be provided to deal with a similar sit-

uation on Cedar Ditech as was experienced.in ‘the Spring of 1972. These pumps could

al3z0 be used to provide some on-the-spot relief to combat local flooding situa-

tions occurring each winter. | Garried.

tion, “and recommending that. in. view of the large amount of teaffic using Tynez
South of Kingsway and in view of the fact that a detour around this section of
Tyner would not only be inconvenient toa larg> number of motorists every day,

but would possibly cause problems on residential streets, the section of Tyner

Street South of Kingsway not be closed,

Aldermen Ranger and Thompson voted against the resolution.
Alderman Ranger stated his view that the Public Works Committee missed the
point of the proposal which was to close Tyner Street because of the heavy traffic
and provide an alternate route down Mary Hill Road to the City Centre and other
points. Alderman Meyer stated he supported the. recommendation as Tyner Street is
the most direct route. from the Mary Hill area to the Port Recreation Centre.
Alderman Thompson stated he agreed with the coments made by Alderman’ Ranger » but
that he felt his proposal should also have included the installation of a traffic
ight at the intersection af Mary Hill and Pitt River Roads.
