Bulteid won the gold Terrace athletes gave a good account of themselves at the B.C, Northern Winter Games which took place at Dawson - Creek last weekend. Terrace as a member of Region 2, Kitimat-Stikine, placed third overall among six regions and placed fourth amongst individual com- munities, There were 33 communities participating in the games. oe Dawson Creek, the host community was the winner with 337 points. It was followed by Fort St. John with 286.5 points, then Burns Lake with 127 points. The Terrace competitors amassed a total of 110.5 points in placing fourth. GYMNASTICS The Terrace Gymnastic team placed second in the aggregate totals with 13 points behind the winning Fort St. John team which -accounted for 17 points. "In the midget category Kerry Paulis of Terrace won the silver medal. In the girls novice class Jessica Wolsse _of Terrace took a gold medal while Laur Quast took a silver and Leanne Miach a . bronze. In girls under 12 Sheryl with ‘Lisa Ljungh placing fourth. _In the girls‘ under 14 class Barbara Thomas of Terrace won. the silver medal. BANTAM HOCKEY The Terrace boys did not do so well at the games, losing all three of their contests. They dropped dn &- 2 decision to Quesnel, lost by ‘a 7-5 score to Fort St. John and 4-2 to Prince George. 7 WRESTLING Terrace wrestlers finished third overall in wrestling only two points out of first place. The locals garnered 17 points against 18 for Fort Nelson and 19 for Houston. In the -89 pound class Ritchie Mallett of Terrace . won a silver medal. Jose Concalves of Terrace took the gold in the 98 pound class. Stan Beran won a bronze in the 115 pound class and Ken Nelson took a bronze also in the 130 pound class. Morris Shaw of Terrace took a gold medal in the 136 pound . class. WATER POLO The Terrace water polo team took the gald medal competitions as they topped a list of teams from Terrace, Prince Rupert, Grande Prairie, Dawson Creek and two Kitimat teams. ; SWIMMING The Terrace swimmers 4 did not have too much' success in the swimming competitions but did make the point circle with two points. These events were won by Prince Rupert followed by Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, - Kitimat, Prince .George, Queen Charlotte Istands and then Terrace. The Terrace relay team earned Terrace’s points. Saturday, March 5 a in the Arena Banquet Room BADMINTON Terrace bhirdsmen finished in third position aggregate in the badminton tests. Fort St. John was the top team with 30 points, followed by Whitehorse with 25 and Terrace third.,Eleven teams were entered. In the girls 15 and under singles matches Janet Perry of Terrace won the gold medal. In the mixed .doubles 19 and under the duet of Debbie Anderson and John Chow won the silver medal. , ; Terracites took their second gold when Gaylene Kawinsky and Janet Perry teamed up to win the girls 15 and under doubles. MORE BADMINTON In the girls 19 and under class D. Hulliori of Terrace took the silver medal. In the boys 15 and under doubles category J. Chow and R. Dempster placed fourth. ., Terrace won its third gold medal in badminton when R. Remster of Terrace teamed up with D. Wilson of Houston to win the 15 and under mixed doubles. Terrace also took the silver in this event with the pair of J. Chow and G. Kaminsky CURLING In the junior mixed the Clifford rink of Terrace took - fourth place. The event was taken by Dawson Creek followed by ‘Quesnel and then Kitimat. , SENIOR MEN'S BASKETBALL In the first game Terrace set. what is no doubt a scoring record by defeating Fort.St. John 181 to 32. The Terracites were led by Tom Marvin with 40, Dale Prest with 26 and Dave Crawley with 21. Terrace faced Mackenzie in the second game winning handily 70 to 28 with John Walbergs scoring’ 14 and Albert Olson 10. . In the final round robin game for Terrace they walloped Burns Lake 135 to 58 with Dale Prest scoring 33 points. : In the semi finals Terrace defeated Fort St. John 128 to $4 behind a_19. point -per- formance by Willie Chemko. - In the other semi final Prince Rupert defeated Mackenzie 69 to 51 -ad- vancing against Terrace in the final. Terrace was surprised in the final game -by a Prince Rupert team which was fired up, handing the locals |. an 93 to 76 defeat for the championship and the gold medal. Terrace took the silver. Red Kluss was the leading mayksman in this game with 19 points. Caledonia to hold -fum hockey for — charity The Caledonia Sensex | Hockey Team made up of players not involved with organized hockey will be taking on the Over 40 R.A.BS. Hockey Team ina match at the Terrace Arena - 26 Saturday, Februar 7:30 between the hours o p.m. until 10 p.m. This is the second annual event. sponsored by the Caledonia team.
