Elks to build
senior housing

CITY COUNCIL is rezoning land on Tetrault St to
high density multi-family for planned construction of a
22-unit seniors’ apartment building.

The proposal from the Elks Lodge met no opposition
at a public hearing Jast week and the rezoning bylaw
was given third reading.

Also granted was a change of the Official Com-
munity Plan from community and public use to multi--
family (apartment),

The Elks’ pian is to build a four-storey apartment
building on land immediately south of their Tetrault St.
lodge, They expect its close proximity to the hospital
and nearby stores will make it a favoured location for
senior citizens.

The building is to have a ground-level parkade and
three levels of residences above it, serviced by an
elevator.

They hope to slart construction early in the spring,
with the building completed for next September.

The library received a $2,240 grant from Industry Cana-
da to hire two students to provide Internet training till the
end of March. Lessons will be an hour each and will pro-
vide background information, a demonstration of the
World Wide Web and will allow participants to surf the
net.

Lessons are available from 5-9 p.m. Mondays to Wed-
nesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10-5 p.m. and Sun-
