The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, August 17, 1994 - A7 6 Gateway Behavioral Support Services presents “An Overview of Autism and Proactive Strategies to Deal With Behaviors” R.D. In Brief i RESIDENTS OF North Terrace and Braun’s Island got a step closer to getting fire protection at the Aug. 6 meeting of the Kitimal-Stikine regional district. Directors gave approval in principle to a deal which would see i Terrace’s fire department look after administration and provide one pumper fire truck while the Thormbill department would pro- vide a pumperfiankor and tanker. Using a formula based on assessed values of properties in the af- fected areas and the city as a whole, and the Terrace fire fighting budget, operating costs are set at $60,000’ per year. Start up costs - of the extended service are estimated at $10,000. Residents would pay for the service on the basis of the assessed value of their homes. In the case of an $80,000 home, that amounts to $32 for star! up and $194 for operating costs. However, those costs will be more than offset by the savings in fire insurance, A report from regional district administration indi- cated those savings would be approximately $340 for that same $80,000 home. It also noted insurance underwriters were prepared to provide coverage at the reduced rates to any property that is within eight miles of the fire hall. The city has yet to officially endorse the deal bul once that’s done the regional district will hold a referendum among North Terrace-Braun’s Island residents.
