The question “Why make pottery for use tn this century?" is addressed, Beyond the goal of making work that ts Inviting to use, the importance of per- sonal expression in clay is stressed. The potter's wheel is the primary means of forming, with additional exploration of altered shapes. Stoneware clays, fired in & reduction atmosphere are used. Lec- turea discussion, demonstrations and eritiques occur throughout the course. Previous experience In throwing potas Is required. The instructor, Jeff Oestreich, is a Minnesota-based artist who ap- preniiced under Bernard Leach in Eng- land.
