Surrounded by an incredible family, the Dakins marked their anniversary by attending Holy Mass al Sacred Heart Chureh where thoughts of many long years ago must of flooded back as they went through the double ring ceremony that preceded the mass. They slipped on each others wedding: fingers beautiful Emerald’ rings, a ring of their families. Side by side they stood listening ‘o Father Allison repeat some of the same prayers thal they had listened lo more than a half centruy cenlury ago. Like newlyweds (hey attended their anniversary: mass, communed and walked down the aisle (a be welcome by the family (hat has proven to be the crowning jewel of their long and sometimes hard life. From the church the Dakins along with family and friends drove to the home of daughter Georgette and Ray Skoglund on Hwy. 16 where a delicious and varied banquet awaited them. This latter was a labour of love that kept Georgette busy most of the past week, according lo husband Ray. The eldest grandson, Dave Skoglund undertook the happy task of proposing a toast in honour of his grandparents. Before gatting down to that official duty he enlightened the large number of relalives and friends: on the ‘history of his grandparents. first harsh winter was spent ina small shack along with the 19 other Dakins. The cabin was never warm al the best of times but became even more 50, recalls George Dakin and his wife because the horses ale the straw that used for chrinking between the logs. Despite the fact that the newlyweds were novices al homesteading they built thernselves a cabin at what was then Dakinville, now called ‘Atmores Over the years the family spread out over the close to five sections that became the famity farm. In all George and Lea spent 45 years on this farm. Dave Skoglund, recounting hig grandparents history noted that because of the cold prdirie nights, the absence of Tv and the Grench French method af “pirht birth control his Grand- parents were blessed with seven children of which six survived, Leonie (Mrs. Duplessis) , Georgette (Mrs. -Skoglund), Paul Emilla (Mrs. Alore), Roger ~ and Bernard. These six children in true family tradiition have given birth to 32 grandchildren and they.in turn fo 19 grandchildren lo date, Their marriage bas survived a depression, another World War, and crop failure and despite all they are still alive and well today. They retired from Lhe farmin - 196L and moved into Edmonton _ and then to B.C, in 1965. They then moved to Fort McMurray in Alberta for a year in 1973 and are now living once again in B.C.
