A 23 ans, un festival d’été toujours frais, et fringants!

Ilya de la grande visite cette année, au 23iéme Festival d’été francophone de Vancouver
2012. Tout d’abord, le Festival accueille pour la deuxiéme fois de son histoire les légen-
daires Cowboys fringants, faisant suite a la sortie récente de leur tout nouvel album « Que
du vent ». Nous espérons revoir se déployer l’histoire d’amour entre cette formation et le
public vancouvérois, alors que le site de la scéne Air Canada affichait complet en 2008,
par un beau samedi soir. Et pour ouvrir cette soirée du samedi 16 juin, Alpha Yaya Diallo
fait un retour remarqué au festival, aprés pres de 15 ans d’absence, et en bonne compagnie,
avec son invité Jérome Miniére, peut-étre « le plus Québécois des chanteurs Francais »,
qui en sera a une toute premiére présence sur les planches d’une scene de la Cote Ouest du
pays. Et pour souligner le vent de fraicheur qui soufflera tout au long de la programmation
du Festival, les exemples ne manquent pas. Nous aurons l’honneur de cloturer le festival
avec un spectacle gratuit du choeur des Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal, de réputation
intemationale, avec un répertoire tout spécial a l’occasion de la St-Jean-Baptiste, le 24 juin.
Aussi, de nombreux DJs francophones d’ici et d’ailleurs, en musique électronique, feront
vibrer le Malkin Bowl de Stanley Park, le samedi 23 juin, et ce, du début de l’aprés-midi
jusqu’en fin de soirée. Et puis, en spectacle d’ouverture, Raphaél Freynet, franco-alber-
tain d’origine manitobaine, gagnant du prix du meilleur album francophone aux demiers
Western Canadian Music Awards, charmera le public vancouvérois avec son trio d’ins-
truments 4 cuivre. Finalement, la jeune chanteuse Mariéme, avec son héritage culturel
métissé du Québec et du Sénégal, fera elle aussi souffler un vent de fraicheur en reprenant
certains des plus grands succés de la chanson francophone. Plus que jamais, nous avons

A summer festival that is 23 years old and still fresh and vibrant!

There will be some notable visitors this year at the 23rd Festival d’été francophone -
de Vancouver 2012. For starters, for the second time in its history, the Festival will ’

welcome the legendary Cowboys Fringants, following on the release of their brand
new album “Que du vent”. We hope to see a repedt performance of the love affair
between this group and the Vancouver audience, as for their last performance on a
beautiful Saturday night in 2008, the Air Canada stage was sold out. For this eve-
ning of June 16, Alpha Yaya Diallo will make a notable return after nearly 15 years
of absence, and in good company too, with his guest Jéréme Miniere, touted as “the
French singer who is more Québécois than all the others”’, who will make his first
appearance on a West Coast stage. And there are many examples of new perfor-
mances that will send a fresh breeze through the Festival program. We will have the
honour of closing the festival with a free performance given by the Petits Chanteurs
du Mont-Royal choir, of international renown, with a very special repertoire on the
occasion of St. Jean Baptiste day on June 24. Also, a number of francophone elec-
tronic music DJs from here and beyond will be making sound waves at Malkin Bowl
in Stanley Park on Saturday, June 23, from the early afternoon right through the
evening. And then, in an opening show, Raphaél Freynet, a Franco-Albertan origi-
nally from Manitoba, winner of the prize for best album at the last Western Canadian
Music Awards, will charm the Vancouver audience with his trio of brass instruments.
Finally, the young singer Mariéme, with her blended heritage from Quebec and Se-
negal, will also bring us a breath of fresh air, as she performs covers of some of the
biggest hits of francophone chanson. We have made it easier than ever to buy tickets
