Chemainus Theatre presents Agatha Christie's "THE RATS" From September 12 to November 1, 2003 Artistic Director: Jeremy Tow Joélle will play Lina LeBlanc, a singing film star, making her comeback after a 15 year absence. The setting is a London television studio during the 1960's. Lina LeBlanc is returning to the screen to play Jennifer in the TV play THE RATS, written by the great mystery writer, Agatha Christie. The director is the menacing Hans Wermsweiller, Lina's ex-husband who happens to have a bizarre passion for rodents. In order to mount his Reality TV show, where his actors live what they act on stage, Hans has recruited the eccentric Lina, her son (soured by his mother's devotion to her public), Minky (his faithful yet unconventionally weird stage manager) and two British actors (who are actually professional spies). Hans delights in caging his entourage into a frenzy of horrific emotions and terror in order to capture life-like deliveries of the script. The actors all want to see Hans dead and like caged rats they turn on each other when a murder occurs. Everyone is a suspect. Think James Bond, the Avengers, Inspector Clousseau and the wacky styles of the 60's all mixed together for a fun-filled evening of laughs, music and intrigue! If you'd like to make an evening of it, Chemainus Theatre offers a delicious buffet dinner (or lunch for matinees) in the upstairs dining room before the shows.
