THE CORPORAHON OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor and Council July 3rd, 1980 FROM: Public Works Committee Report: from the Public Works Committee Meeting held Wednesday, July 2nd, 1980. IN ATTENDANCE: Alderman E.W. Mabbett Alderman L.M. Traboulay F.E. Peters, P. Eng., City Engineer ITEM =F Re: Curve on Columbia Avenue The City has a history of correspondence with Mr. and Mrs. CoisJo of 1490 Columbia Avenue regarding improvement to the curve on Columbia in front of-his house. The problem at that location is that the curve does not have a normal super--elevation but the cross-fall is in the wrong direction. This adverse cross-fall combined with the grade causes the occasional vehicle to over-run the curve and end up in Mr. Cobb's front yard, He has been very concerned about the danger to his children playing in the yard. Several Public Works Committees have considered ways Of dealing with this problem. ‘The curve cannot be im- proved to the inside because of the restricted property avallable and because this would eliminate the sidewalk area. A solution which is possible is to raise the pavement on the outside edge of the curve in order to provide a proper super- elevation to the curve. There is no technical problem to accomplishing this and such a raising of the roadway would also assist the driveways entering the curve on the high side by making them less steep. . The cost of improving the corner and fixing the driveways is estimated to be about $3,000. The Committee xecommends that this work be done and the cost. be taken out of the unallocated funds for 1980.
