THE CITY of Terrace ‘is hoping it’s found a temporary solution to a mucky problem: at the Fisherman’ s Memorial “Park boat launch, ~ The boat launch, located at the west end of Terrace where the Skeena and Kalum rivers meet, sees dozens of boats oo launched from there every day..But a back eddy formed — "earlier. this summer from the meeting of the two rivers is .. _ dumping an inordinate amount of sand on the concrete ramp _ designed to allow anglers to back up their boat. trailers | into " ” the water to get the boat in the river. © . _ . The pile of sand is making it difficult for local and visit- __ ing anglers alike to load and unload from the concrete Pad which leads directly into.the Skeena. Ultimately the city plans’ to dump rip-rap along the. west | Side of the boat launch i in an effort to redirect the water from dumping. the sand on.the launch ramp. The cost of the work is not in this year’s budget and will : likely have to wait until next spring, says the city’s direc-. ~ tor of leisure services, Ross Milnthorp. It can‘be difficult sometimes to determine -when a plant needs to be repotted. I’m sure you’ve all noticed roots growing out of the drainage holes in your potted plants. This is a good indication a plant is due to be repotted. A plant left in one container too long becomes root bound and as a result starts to suffer. . maintain healthy growth. When you remove the pot check to see if the roots are wound tightly aroundiin _a Circle, if they are very bound and woody you will need to-loosen them up or cut some ‘off. This helps to encourage. them to spread to the new pot. When selecting a new pot choose one that is 1 or 2.sizes bigger than the last one. To remove the old pot lay. the plant on its side on the ground ora bench and _pull on the base of the plant with one hand and the. pot with the other; you may need to-thump on the. side of the pot with your hand to get it started. When you put the plant into the new pot place some fresh soil in the bottom so the crown of the root ball is fill around the sides and water. Things to remember: -® Tropicals will grow faster if repotted regularly; if you leave them a little root bound they won't out . grow your house as quickly. ® Plants prone to root rot should be carefully .; watered after transplanting. The extra soil won't ~ dry out very quickly. -® Tropicals should always be planted in-sterile soil not compost or topsoil. Visiting angler Dave Greenwood and his friends Peter Borowski and Bill Borowski were in Terrace for a week of fishing recently. ‘They agree a solution needs to be found to” the sandy boat launch. “It took me about five times to figure out where it was and when we came two weeks ago there were about five boats waiting in line,” said Greenwood. He thinks dumping rip-rap at the foot of the park is the logical solution. ° _ “Fill it. with rocks and it would stop the back eddy,” he said. “Definitely this should be fixed up because it’s'so popular pot only for the locals but for us out- of-towners too.” and Kalum Lake Drive? 6.5 acres, 2 lots uns $129,900 Rositor Bus: (877) 635-2404 Res: BEE) 798-9565 Cell: (250) 631-3100 Email: vance@royallepage.ca NS 11100 0G NNT Royal LePage Terrace ROYAL LEPAGE Potting up your plants. will help them #102-4644 Lazelle Ave., Terrace, B.C. quem sttin1tiiisttHit ee The War Amps pays tribute to (amadas Military.
