Terrace devastated by ’36 flood YVONNE MOEN A FEW WEEKS ago we had the privilege of having some friends from Prince Rupert visit us, They came to share with us some memories, and a look at a old photo album from days long gone. Our friends from Prince Rupert were Denis and Wenina Garon. Wenina is the granddaughter of Ed Eby, of Eby’s Landing. Her grandfather Edward (Ed) Eby was born Septem- ber 22 in Ontario in the Grant Township, Bruce, Elemwood, in 1877, | He headed west in 1892 for Banff, Alberta where he was employed for one year, Still working his way west, he arrived in Van- couver in 1896. Then he crossed over to Victoria and worked his way up the island to Uclulet where he found a job Managing a general store. The store was owned by H.C. Brewster, who later became premier of B.C. In 1904 Eby went back to Vicloria where he married Vina Fayette, From Victoria the couple came up the coast to the mouth of the Skeena to make a start in Port Essing- ton. Their first child, Vernon, was bom there in 1905 while Eby was employed as a foreman in Wadhams Can- nery, The Frank family heritage home ts still sitting next to the Skeena on about two acres of land But Eby wasn’t interested in a carcer with the fish packing industry. In that same year, 1905, te Kitsumkalum = and Lakelse Valley had been thrown open to land seekers, and the first settlers arrived to stake homesteads, With the beginnings of steamboat traffic in May of 1906, Eby came up to look Run straight to bed!
