They also brought with them many stories of the hardship they experienced during the terrible war years. ~ Now, as they look back a half century to the life they shared together, they - still clearly remember the day they both stood together at the altar, looking into each other’s eyes, repeating their vows. Those memories were rekindled on Nov. 25, 1994, when Peter and Rina Cervo were treated to a surprise 50th wedding anniversary party held at the Elks Hall in Ter- race, B.C. Family and some close friends gathered together at the Elks Hall for this very spe- cial day. The afternoon was spent. with everyone just relaxing and chatting with the 50th an- niversary couple, Now I will try and tell you just a little bit about the Cervo family. Peter Cervo was born Sept. 9, 1918 at Crorneds, Italy. His wife, was born Rina Bat- tilano on Nov. 18, 1925 at Brogliano, When the war came in 1939, Peter went into the army and served until 1943. HERE 'N THERE. YVONNE MOEN The couple met when he was working at a textile factory as a weaver in the village of Valdagno. Their first meeting was at a train station in Brogliano. Rina was sitting with some other ladies enjoying a cigarette, waiting for the train, and Peter commented to them on how much smoke they were making. Peter and Rina then had a slight argument over this. They both went their own way, but the next spring they met again at the same station and got to know each other better. Peter then in May of 1944 went to ask Rina’s father for her hand in marriage. ‘Peter and Rina Cervo were married on Nov. 25, 1944 at the Madonna St. Assunta Church at Brogiliano, Italy. Because a war was going on at the time, they had just a very small wedding with just Open House ON THE KALUM TIMBER SUPPLY AREA {TSA) — - KALUM SOUTH You are invited to review and comment 0 an the timber supply review discussion paper for the southern portion of the Kalum timber supply area (TSA). They have lived a very good but simple life in Canada, Mrs. Cervo had not owned nor ever wished to own a washing machine, preferring to do her laundry by hand on the good old wash board, She remembers going down to the river at Burns Lake to rinse her clothing in the river at 48 below. Last year, her children bought her a brand new washer, telling her it was time and she deserved one, She now uses it to store things in. T asked Mrs. Cervo what ad- vice she gives for a good mar- riage. Never keep things bottled up inside, she says, ‘‘Yell it out.’’ And never lie to your hus- band, but never tell him every- thing.
