I would like to share a few Stories on three young. students who this year shared some of the. awards in Caledonia’s graduating class. Lung Liv was bom in Vietnam on Feb, 18, 1974, He and -his parents moved to Terrace on Nov. 19, 1979. Lung first started school at E. T. - Kenney Elementary school,‘and went on to Clarence: Michiel: Elementary and later Skeena’ Jt. Secondary, He spent his Grade 11 year in New Westminster because. his — family had moved there in 1990 to open a restaurant, ’ Lung returned to Caledonia for his gradualing year. A straight A student from Grades 10-12, Lung was the out- . standing academic student in Grade 10, taking three course awards. On graduatingin received five course June; he awards - (Biology 12, Physics 12, Math 12, Calculus 12, and English 12), shared the Caledonia Outstanding Student Award, and has. now received the Governor General’s academic’ imedal and the oustand- “ing scientific scholarship award. — ‘Ling also was presented with ‘the Hans G..Muclhe scholarship of -$1,000, a $1,000 provincial scholarship, ‘and the U.B.C, entrance scholarship of $2,200. While at Caledonia, Lung was involved in. the Amnesty Interna- tional Science. Club, and the An- - nual Club. In the fall he goes to UBC to take first year sciences. He plans fo > go into medicine or * biochemistry. after that and afler gradualing- conduct ‘research or practise ‘medicine in Third. World countries. The church supported the fam- ily for their first seven months here, Mrs. Liu had another son the following year, named David - after the former minister of the church. a The boys - persuaded. their parents to move back here to live in 1991. Mr. Liu, who took a . welding course at the college, went. to work for Terrace Steel, and Mrs. Liu works as a custodian at Kiti K’Shan school. the other The Liu family as one of the Victnamese familics sponsored by the church, are very grateful for everyone who helped make it possible for them to come to Can- ada. ~ One person who was particular- ly helpful. during their first. years here was Alice Chen-Wing. She has since passed away and the family misses her greatly.
