Organizers have lined up 13 teams — nine from house league and four from rep league. The Edmonton entries (the first ever for this series) will have one team in each division. They'll play a total of 26 games overall from Dec. 27 to 29. _The tournament is arranged for house teams set up into sec- ever tions ‘of .three teams each. They'll play round-robin. with teams then advancing to single - elimination. finals in. cross-over style. The house section has three teams from Terrace — Kinsmen, Dave’s Plumbing and Tilden. There’s also three entries from Kitimat and two from Prince Rupert, plus Edmonton. The four rep teams are Ter- race, Hazelton, Kitimat and Ed- monton. They’ll play a com- plete round-robin. Final cash spiel won by Kerr rink . The third and final Northwest > ‘sash’ bonspiel at Smithers Curl- ‘ing Club on Dec. 2 weekend turned out to be a best-of-three _ final for rinks skipped by Bruce Kerr of Prince Rupert and Rob _ Brise of Smithers. In the earlier spiels for big money, Kerr won the season opener at Rupert while Brise topped the second spiel at Ter- race. Ironically, they tangled for $3,000 first-place and $2,000 second-place money in the Smithers’ final. Kerr emerged on top, running up an easy lopsided win after only seven ends. Prince George’s Brian Mooney went home with $1,200 for taking third place, while hometowner Gord Pratt went to ‘the bank with $900 for fourth ‘place. Justin Meek of Kitwanga went home with $450 for beating Smithers’ Al Parker in the con- solation final. Parker won $200. The spiel attracted 24 teams. ~ Oldtimers in Smithers ’ Houston Hobblers, Kitimat Merchants and Kitimat North Stars emerged as division win- ners as Smithers hosted a 12-team, 18-game oidtimers’ hockey tournament on Dec. 2 weekend. Hobblers went unbeaten in three round-robin games to win the Coors division, Hobblers wound up with victories over Terrace Timbermen, Prince Rupert Wrinkles and Smithers Drillers. Terrace had a one-win, two- loss record in their three-game set. In the Canadian Airlines divi- sion, Kitimat Merchants fin- ished on to with wins over Prince George, Smithers’ Hud- son Bay Lodge and Hazelton. Kitimat’s North Stars won the Old Style division. Other teams competing were Smithers’ Rubber-Puckers, Houston Huskies and Prince Rupert Puckaneers. Next oldtimers’ tournament is coming up mid-January at Houston.
