-~ “6 Terrace Review — Wednesday, July 2, 1986 Peewee and Bantam softball winds up Terrace teams emerg- ed victorious on the June 21 weekend as Terrace _ Minor Softball’s Bantam Boys, Bantam Girls and Peewee Girls, along with several out-of-town teams, enjoyed two days of tournament action. Terrace Travel won the Bantam Girls’ side by downing Thornhill Huskies 17-6 in the final, Terrace Travel went undefeated in the five- team round-robin sec- tion. They beat Smithers Elks 15-9, took Smithers McEwans 13-8, out- scored the Huskies 13-10 in their first meeting, and came through with a 19-9 victory over Doc’s Cartage. The Huskies won their other three round-robin games — 14-13 over Doc’s, 18-11 over Elks, and 16-4 over McEwans. This series had the top two teams advancing to a sudden- death final. In the four-team Ban- tam Boys’ setup, R. King and Sons outscored Skeena Hotel 10-8 in the title contest.. In semi- final action, R. King eliminated Kinsmen 9-8 while Skeena knocked off Kitwanga 7-5, Scores from the round-robin portion leading up to the semis were as follows — Kinsmen 8, Skeena 5; Kitwanga 13, R. King 3; R. King 17, Skeena 16; Kitwanga 12, Kinsmen 1; Kitwanga 12, Skeena 4: and Kinsmen 16, R. King 15. C and B Services took the 11-team Peewee Girls’ series by defeating Telkwa Fink’s Sawmills 15-5 in the final. Because they had so many teams, each one played only four round-robin games. Top athletes named/ Grade 10 students Michelle Hendry and Dion Orbell were named female and male athletes of the year at Skeena Junior High School’s season-ending awards day ceremonies at the R.E.M. Lee Theatre on June 26. In addition to being named best of the boys in sports, Orbell also picked up an.award for diligence. Hendry, who was away on a special basketball trip; won several more awards, in- cluding one for diligence, She was also named the junior ‘‘A”’ girls' outstanding player in both basketball and volleyball, Following is a list of individual honors given out for the various sports at Skeena.
