January 10th, Moved by Alderman Thompson: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That as recommended in a memorandum from the City Administrator, January 7th, 1977, the City-owned house located at 2190 Prairie Avenue be offered for.rent at the rate of $270.00 per month, on a month-to- month basis pending completion of road widening and assessment of the market for sale of the property. Carried. From the City Clerk, January 5th, 1977, advising that the 1977 business licence fee for a trailer court was increased to $29.00 per space. for a period of 12 months; however, a review of the situation revealed that, due to an inconsistency in the wording of the By-law, it had erroneously been assumed during processing that that amount was paid on a six month rather than an annual basis. Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Thompson: That the City Clerk be instructed to prepare the necessary amending By-law to set the business licence fee for trailer courts at $15.00 per space per year. Defeated. City Clerk re! '77 Bus.Lic. ; fee-trailer court spaces Mayor Campbell and Aldermen Ranger and Thompson voted in favour of the resolution. A discussion ensued, and Alderman Keryluk pointed out that persons living in trailers raise families and make demands on community services, but their contribution to the upkeep of the community does not compare with that of a person living on a standard City lot and Alderman Laking advised he agreed with the view of Alderman Keryluk that an additional $29.00 per trailer space would not be out of line. In answer to a query from Alderman Mabbett, the City Administrator advised he did not know what trailer space fees were charged in neighbouring municipalities; however, he stated he would endeavour to obtain this information. Alderman Thompson stated he did not think it was the intent of Council to double the fee, and that he was opposed to doing so. Alderman Ranger suggested that a study be made to determine whether or not persons living in trailers were paying their fair share towards the upkeep of the Community; however, Alderman Laking pointed out that the Provincial statutes regulate how trailers will be assessed. Alderman Traboulay stated he felt the $29.00 fee was reasonable, and the following motion was then proposed: Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Laking: That the 1977 business licence fee for trailer courts be confirmed at $29.00 per space annually. Carried. Mayor Campbell and Aldermen Ranger and Thompson voted against the resolution.
