“TRE COUPGDATIGN GF THE CITY GF FORT COMMITLAM =~ C 0 YJ 7 _ MEMORANDUM OCT 10 1978 TO: Mayor and Council . October 2nd, 1978 FROM: Public Works Committee Report from the Public Works Committee Meeting held Priday, September 29th, 1978. IN ATTENDANCE: Alderman E.W. Mabbett Alderman LL.M. Traboulay F.E. Peters, P. Eng. in Lane at 3036 Flint Manager of the apartment complex at the above address has complained about excessive speed in the lane behind the apartments. The speed, in particular, affects the safety of vehicles leaving the underground parking garage which exits onto the lane and has poor visibility of the lane. tt appears that a part of the problem of speeding in the lane is caused by patrons of the Palomino Night Club on Manning Avenue who use the lane behind these apartments as a short cut from the parking lot to Coquitlam Avenue. The attached sketch No. 1 shows the location of the parking lot and the lane. ; The Committee recommends the.closure cf the lane at the south end of the parking lot where it connects to the east- west lane. This would require the users of the parking lot to exit via Manning Avenue and would thus eliminate a lot of the traific in the lane. The connection between the two lanes is not required for circulation of service and garbage vehicles. ITEM IT Re: Parking Restrictions on Shaughnessy Street There is a visibility preblem for traffic entering Shaughnessy Street from Wilson east of Shaughnessy. This intersection is a difficult one to cross because of the curb on Shaughnessy Street and therefore anything which adds to the visibility problem creates an additional hazard. Part of the visibility problen coulée be alleviated by ciminating parking on the east side of Shaughnessy south of Wilson for a distance of:about 100 feet and the Public Works Committee recommends that this be done.
