The list, he asserts, “did not
overlook children,” and among
those “tabbed for systematic
elimination” were such groups
as the Viet Cong Young Girls’
Alliance and the Viet Cong
equivalent of the boy scouts. He
continues: _

“In effect, Company C that
swept the hamlet was doing no
more and no less than following
CIA directives by putting the in-
habitants of My Lai to the wall.”

Frosch, 27, a graduate of Vir-
ginia Military Institute, was
discharged with the rank of cap-
tain last June. He is now a4
United Press International re-
porter stationed in Atlanta.

“The premises and assump-
tions of the war, the tactics em-
ployed in combat and the very
nature of the military system
made the event inevitable and
left to chance only the location,
time, and individuals involved,”
he writes.

Real story of Kerensky

Germans on June 18, which
brought disaster to the Russian
army and great casualties. To
compel the people to submit, the
Provisional Government began
to hound the Bolsheviks and
Kerensky reinstituted the death
penalty at the front.

Workers’ papers were raided,
Lenin was forced to go into hid-
ing, the period of ‘“‘dual power”
was replaced by the open rule
of the capitalist class, and A.
Kerensky was made prime
minister.

On November 7 and 8 the
workers and revolutionary sol-
diers, led by Lenin and the Bol-

armed uprising, occupying the
government and military head-
quarters, arresting the members
of the Provisional Government
(except Kerensky who escaped
disguised as a woman) and dis-
arming the counter-revolution-
ary armed forces. The revolu-
tion was practically bloodless
because the people overwhelm-
ingly supported it. And the vic-
torious workers delivered state
power into the hands of the

In ‘ethnic’ groups

Fascists are fostered

Toronto dailies have been
printing a series of letters that
reveal a rather curious contro-
versy.

On May 31 a demonstration of
ultra-rights was held at the City

Hall Square. The date was not ©

accidental — that was the day
of the demonstration demand-
ing the withdrawal of US.
troops from Indochina and an
end to Canadian complicity in
the war. It speaks well for pub-
lic sentiment in the city on this
question, that the reactionaries
could not organize a directly
pro-US war parade of “hard-
hats,” but chose instead to hold
something variously described
as an “anti-Lenin rally” and a
“Ukrainian anti-Soviet protest”
—a flanking attack on the anti-
war forces, so to say.

The manpower for this under-
taking was mainly recruited
from “ethnic,” i.e., immigrant
nationalist groups.

The Big Flop

Taking into account that this
demonstration had been bally-
hooed for days in the daily press
(along with an escalation of
anti-Soviet propaganda concoc-
tions), that it was assiduously
organized in the colleges and
secondary schools, mobilized
directly by dozens of churches,
nationalist societies and their
press, and pushed for all it was
worth by reactionaries of all
stripes, the result was a distinct
fizzle for its inspirers and or-
ganizers (which is not to say
that it must be treated lightly).

The most generous. well-wish- -

ers could not give the number
of participants as more than
three thousand, and certainly
less than the stop-the-war pa-
rade that followed immediately
after.

Moreover, the plan to use this
demonstration for a violent
“confrontation” with the peace
parade also could not be carried
out. Public sentiment made it
imprudent for the police to re-
peat the provocative actions
they displayed at the May 9
anti-war rally, the peace march-
ers were too strong and disci-
plined — and the ultras just
didn’t have what it takes.

Whose Baby Was It?

A verbal battle is still raging
on the pages of the dailies, how-
ever, over whose “baby” the
abortion was. There are a num-
ber of claimants for that dubious
distinction (though the top in-
stigators as always prefer to re-
main modestly
ground). :

Some Ukrainian nationalists
hastened to dissociate them-
selves from the Edmund Burke
Society would-be stormtroop-
ers, saying that the latter had
not been invited and complain-
ing that their participation
allegedly compromised the less
lunatic sections.

Spokesmen of the EBS imme-
diately countered by asserting

that they were so there by invi-

tation.

then confided to the press that
the demonstration was of the
Bloc-heads’ making and that
“honest and truly” they had in-
vited the EBS.

A Ukrainian ultra then rushed

into print to disclose that the
real father was the Ukrainian
Canadian Committee and the
mother was the Canadian League
for the Liberation of Ukraine
(ragtail of the Bandera fascist
cutthroats), and that they hadn’t
asked the EBS.

“The EBS is trying to steal
the show by going to all anti-
Soviet rallies,’ he complained.

Birds of a Feather

As a matter of fact, they are
all tarred with the same brush.
If some now want to appear
more “moderate” than others, it
is either because they wish to
conceal their true colors in the
face of public disapproval —
which they shouldn’t be permit-
ted to do—or because they are
beginning to come to their sens-
es—which is to be welcomed,
but then they have to think
things right through and see
how they come to be in such
company.

The EBS is a typical ultra-
right organization of a fascist
character, a well-heeled mobile
tight group of stormtroopers
that attacks not only Commu-
nist but all progressive under-
takings, with physical violence
and brazen provocativeness.

The ACBN is the creation of
former Hitler and Mussolini
secret service agents and war
criminals who switched their
“allegiance” to the CIA and the
Pentagon when the war ended.

Ukrainian Ultras

The Ukrainian Canadian Com-
mittee was formed under Gov-
érnment direction during World
War II to enable Ukrainian
bourgeois nationalists here to
continue anti-Soviet activity
(they could not directly support
Hitler any longer, naturally,
since Canada was at war with
Germany, nor could they op-
pose the USSR openly, since it
was our ally).

With the advent of the “cold
war” it was possible for the
UCC to go all out on the old
anti-Soviet (which means also
anti-Soviet Ukraine) policy, its

political essence slightly cov-

ered with “ethnic” phrases.

The UCC never allowed pro-
gressive Ukrainian Canadian
organizations into the Commit-
tee, and its leadership has in the
past decade been seized by the
“ultra wing of the ultras’”—the
Bandera group.

The CLLU is the Canadian
organization of the Banderists,
the main Ukrainian fascist out-
fit, schooled in territoristic ac-
tivitv. which was responsible
for the massacre of hundreds of
thousands of innocent people
both in and outside the Ukraine
during and following the war.

This is the conglomerate
which enticed some hundreds of
duped youngsters (and some
who are old enough to know
better) to take part in that May
31 demonstration. Who invited
whom does not really matter—

‘they were in it together. And

even though it wasn’t much of
a show, they’re at one another’s
throats to receive the “credit”
for the “action” with their
bosses, the CIA and the Estab-
lishment.
Warning of Danger

When several delegates of im-
migrant background at a recent
meeting of the Metro Toronto
Labor Council warned that fas-
cist groups are stepping up ac-
tivity among immigrant work-
ers, they showed an awareness
of a real danger. The forces of

slaught against the working
people of Canada on a grand
scale and while they are grind-
ing out their propaganda and

‘readying their legal machinery

— training police and army
for “anti-disturbances” duty,
polishing up anti-labor legisla-
tion, etc.—they are not neglect-
ing the “volunteer” detachments
which they figure they’ll need
for strikebreaking, smashing
popular movements, and terror-
izing the workers.

That’s why Beattie’s swastika-
sporting fascist party, the rabid
Edmund Burke Society and
other such outfits are today
brought out of the wraps, given
wide publicity, and in the subtle
“that’s their democratic right”
manner encouraged to build up
strength. The ultra-right ‘“na-
tionalist” groups are considered
the best medium for this pur-
pose, not only to browbeat pro-

gressives in the “ethnic” com- :

munities themselves, but as a
spearpoint against anti-war and
anti-austerity forces in Canada
as a whole.

Anti-Communism and = anti-
Sovietism are a smokescreen for
mounting an offensive against
labor, democracy and progress
in our country.

Nursing the Viper

This is not accidental—it is
the continuation of a long-term
policy. Governments come and
shades of difference appear in
the official policy in one or an-
other regard, but the underlying
class motivation remains. So do
the measures to maintain it.

The Department of Immigra-
tion and Citizenship, the Exter-
nal’ Affairs Department, the
RCMP, etc., have conducted a
consistent policy in this regard
over the decades. Entry visas
are denied not only to visitors
from the socialist countries but
to progressive spokesmen from
Western capitalist states as well.
Immigrants with progressive
views are barred at the border
while persons with a fascist his-
tory and reactionary views are
not only welcomed but coddled.
Reactionary “nationalist” (main-
ly counter-revolutionary emi-
grés from socialist countries)
associations and periodicals are
encouraged, subsidized and pro-
moted in every way, but foreign-
born workers with progressive
views are denied citizenship
even after 50 years in Canada.
Fascist war criminals, fugitives
from justice, are provided shel-
ter and protection in Canada,
while anti-fascists are hounded,
discriminated against, and sub-
jected to calumny. :

Truly, Canada has been nurs-
ing a viper in her bosom. So
far as the Establishment is con-
cerned, this has been deliberate.
