December 4th, 1978. City Engineer for problems pertaining to Public Works. A few of the major works that have been completed are: Prairie Avenue from Shaughnessy Street to Flint Avenue - complete rebuilding of the road with street lighting and sidewalks, traffic lights to be installed in the near future; Kingsway Street, east of Tyner Street has been completely reconstructed; and the Prairie Avenue — Coast Meridian Road intersection has been upgraded. Several new fiberglas bus shelters have been installed around the City and a new signal is to be installed at the corner of Pitt River Road and Shaughnessy Street early in the new year. The final stage of the 18" water main has been completed on the south side to service Mary Hill and the lower portion of the south side. A 12" watermain has been installed on Prairie Road - Newberry Street east to Freemont Street.:The First phase of the dyking program started this year, and there will be a change in garbage pick-up - weekly pick-ups plus odds and ends householders may wish to dispose of thus eliminating Spring and Fall Clean-up weeks. Alderman Mabbett advised he served on the G.V.R.D. Parks Committee, Floating Homes Committee, and Hospital Committee and stated the Eagle Ridge Hospital is finally off the ground and tenders have been cajled. Phase one of the Mary Hill By-pass will begin in 1979. Alderman Mabbett stated in 1979 the Public Works Committee will work towards improvement in the water system in the downtown area and in the northeast sector, the reconstruction of Kingsway Street and the installation of storm sewers on Wellington Street from Coquitlam Avenue to Prairie Avenue. He further advised continued planning would be doue for a circulation road at the end of Marpole Avenue and Whyte Avenue to McAllister Avenue and a phased local improvement program would be instituted. Alderman Mabbett expressed his appreciation to the Administrative staff and te retiring Alderman M.A. Thompson. Alderman Wright ~ Alderman Wright addressed the meeting stating he was very appreciative of the support he received in the recent election and will endeavour to live up to his supporters expectations. Alderman Wright expressed his appreciation to his wife and family for their support. Alderman Wright stated there has not been a new face on Council for five years and everyone is naturally interested to see what he will do. He stated he will take an active interest in all Council's business and looks forward to working with the staff at City Hall and he will serve the people of Port Coquitlam to the best of his ability.
