The purpose is to publicize the Royal Canadian Army Cadets, to make better known the aim of the movement and what it has to offer to youth and the community end to ask the public for funds to assist in achieving the ain. , 7 The ain of the Royal Canadian Amy Cadets is to offer to a sector of Canadian youth a programne of personal and social development based on military training and contributing to the qualities of good citizen- ship, leedership, physical fitness and service to the community and nation, and to stimulate their interest in the maritime, land and air elements of the Canadian Forces and the roles of the military in Canadian society. . . The training is offered to boys and girls between the a es.of 13 and 19 years, and includes drill, shooting, field craft, map use, first aid, citizenship, adventure training and other subjects. Each Cadet is a member of a Cadet Corps, of which there are 44 ia British Columbia, He or she parades at least one evening each week through the school year, and in the sumer holiday period has the’ opportunity to attend camp for more advanced training. As a Cadet progresses, in addition to technical skills, he or she gains in self-discipline and self-reliance, and learns to work with others and for others. It has been cormented by judges and others in the legal profession that there is 4 stenificantly low proportion of youth who have had Cadet training who get-into trouble with the law to the extent that it has been proposed that the courts be empowered to make the taking of such training a condicion of probation in appropriate cases. The Canadian Government, through the Department of National Defence, makes it possible for the Royal Canadian Army Cadets to operate, providing uniforms, instructors, training aids and the sucner cazps. Where a Canadian Forces base exists, free accommodation is generally ‘available to the Cadet Co-as. Few Cadet Corps, however, can adequately fulfil their role without additional funds. One of the responsibilities of the Army Cadet League of British Columbia is to raise these additional funds.
