SETET he ura gre . INTER OFFICE MEMO _ 103 Mayor and Aldermen , DATE: January 15th, 1973 FROM=2 Alderman E.W. Mabbett . CeCe AE Fg w JEN 1 Bote The recent break and entry of one of our major stores in the Downtown a ea‘ has brought about 4 number of questions that I feel the City Council should have answered, l, I understand that as a result of our recent amalgamation of the R.C.M.P. we no longer have direct alarm systems to the new establishment. If this ds s0, who authorized the abandoning of the previous system? 2. {also understand that the commercial concerns who previously had this type’ of direct alarm system were given no prior notice of the abandonment of said systen; if this is true, why was it not discussed with them and possibly a Committee of Council? 3. In discussing the recent break-in with the owner of said building, he informed me that ‘the estimated time of the break-in was probably in the . neighbourhood of 1- 2 a.m. The back door was left unlocked from break-in time till well on the next day. Where was our police patrol during this long period? i feel this problem warrents serious discussions with all concerned, as in ny humble opinion, I would think direct alarms are great advantage to the police as well as the commercial establishments of our City. /ba
