24 Terrace Review — Wednesday, March 2, 1988 Pacific Northwest Mus . details of. all classes and times - by Terrace contributor Diane Weismiller Residents of the Pacific Northwest can look forward to an exciting two weeks of free entertainment at the Pacific Northwest Music Festival, being held from March 7 - 19. A total of 1,266 entries have been received for Speech Arts, Vocal, Choral, Band, Instrumental and Dance competitions. Adjudicators for this year’s Festival are: Speech Arts — Ridings — continued from page 1 pointed out that the Nishga In- dians have strong historical ties to the Atlin riding and such a change would not be popular. When asked about the elec- toral boundary public hearings following the Terrace meeting, Parker said, ‘‘I concur with the rest of the folks around here. I see no reason to change. None whatsoever.’’ But he said from what he had heard, “I’m not convinced that they’re listening.”’ Parker suggested that people from the south had no concept of the distances in the north and suggested that including Smi- thers and Telkwa with the Atlin constituency was ‘“‘just incredi- ble’’. ‘‘Unless,’’ he added, “we're going to train each MLA and provide him with his own -helicopter.”’ ‘““When you come parachuting in full of ideas and not really listening,’? he said, the concept of enlarging Atlin could appear to be logical. According to 1986 Statistics Canada figures however, if population is to be the main criteria in Fisher’s redrawing of electoral boundaries, the con- cept of size could make little dif- ference to his decision. By substracting Hazelton and Smithers and adding the Nass Valley, the Skeena population would drop from 43,436 to 39,525. With these same changes, plus moving Telkwa from Omineca to Atlin, Omineca would drop from 29,623 to 28,760 and the popula- tion of Atlin would increase from 5,511 to 10,285.
