THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM C Q U N C | MEMORANDUM APR 30 1984 TO: B. Kirk, April 26, 1984 City Administrator FROM: F.E. Peters., P. Eng., City Engineer SUBJECT: Kingsway Bridge Replacement RECOMMENDATION: That the contract for the Kingsway Bridge replacement be awarded to M.D.M, Enterprises Ltd. in the amount of $796,597.33. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: Attached is a copy of a report received from Associated Engineering Services Ltd. who evaluated the tenders received on this contract. The above recommendation is in accordance with the Consultant's recommendation. The tender involves a two-day closure of Kingsway in order to relocate the existing bridge to a temporary site alongside the proposed new bridge. it fs intended to continue operation of the old bridge as a two way system during the construction and to facilitate this the Works and Services Committee will be meeting with the major transportation companies in Port Coquitlam to try to get their cooperation in diverting the truck traffic during the period of construction. Total funds allowed in the budget for this project are $995,000. The tendered price does not include the cost of engineering during construction nor the cost of +he sidewalk and boulevard landscaping which is to be dona by our own forces, We estimate the total cost ot this project including the above wil! amount to approximately $880,000 which is well within the budgeted amount. At the date of this memo we have not received official confirmation of Revenue Sharing from the Department of Highways although we are told that confirmation should come within the next two or three days. Nevertheless, an early award of this project is desirable since the contractor can commence certain preparatory works prior to the time that he is allowed to work in the river under Fisheries Regulations. Should the tender be awarded today, we would anticipate that the contractor would start by manufacturing the pre-cast beams for the bridge and preparing the appmoaches for the diversion road. We would demolish the buildings/on the west side of the river as soon as the tenants vacate th Tne aie wet ote dete, MERA BRIE FEP/sqgq Peters, P. R35 Engineer
