They had a four year courtship, Jane said in those days when a couple was courting, they didn’t sec each that often because everyoue was very Lusy helping their family with work. They finally © were married on January 11, 1951 in a double wedding ceremony. Cor and Jane tied the knot, as did Jane’s brother Abe to his wife Rene. The two couples were married at city hall in Sassenhein, Holland, YVONNE MOEN Now a litile bit about Cor and Jane. Jane was born on June 20, 1928 in Sassenhein, Holland. She came from a family of nine children. Cor was born March 30, 1924 in Lisse, Holland, and was part of a family of 11 children. When Cor grew older he worked for a bulb grower, Later he changed careers, becoming a painter. Cor and Jane lived in Holland until 1956. Then they decided to immigrate to Canada, following in the footstep’s of Jane’s brother Abe, They arrived in Montreal with their three young daughiers, then took a long train ride to Terrace. When they first arrived here the Braams settled down in a house on High- way 16, at the present sile of Peterbilt Trucks, As a prafessional house painter Cor would paint during the summer, and worked at Pohle Lumber during the winter. In 1958 their first son Bill was born in the old Red Cross hospital in Terrace. From 1959 to 1962 the family lived in Medicine Hat Alberta, There the last two boys were born. The Braam family retumed to Terrace in 1962, living briefly on North Thomas, then set- tling in their present home al the foot of Lanfear Drive in 1963, This house is well known as one of the oldest homes in Terrace. It was built around 1920 as was known as the Old Green Place. Cor has always been an avid gardener and he has a large, fruitful garden every season, I’m sure many of you have driven by their prop- | erty and admired the many tulips — some of which are’ imported right from Hol- land, You probably inave also noticed the windmill in their yard which was built by Mr. Allen Venema. Jane is known for her years of being a Province News distributor, a rural postal route contractor and more recently as an active volunteer for the Canadian Diabetes Association. They are both actively in- Cor and Jane Braam volved in the local Chris- tian Reformed Church and spent many a term on chureh council. Jane spent Many years as one of the chuich’s organists. The Braams still get itchy feet occasionally, and visit their family in Holland, New Zealand, and through- out Canada. [ wish many more years of health and happiness to them both.
