Defeated. Aldermen Laking and Trabculay voted in favour of the resolution. Prior to defeat of the foregoing proposed motion, Alderman Thompson stated he was in favour of proceeding with the recommendations set forth in the Public Works Committee report, and Alderman Mabbett indicated he concurred with that view, as did Alderman Ranger. Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Seconded by Alderman Thompson: That as recommended in a report from the Public Works Committee, June 24th, 1977, the City sharing with the Ministry of Highways on a 50-50 basis, the cost of landscaping the raised median on the Lougheed Highway Widening Project from Westwood Street to Oxford Street as outlined in accompanying correspondence from the Ministry, May 26th, 1977 and a memorandum from the Parks Superintendent, May 18th, 1977, be approved; AND THAT the City accept responsibility for continued maintenance the landscaped areas. Carried. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, Alderman Ranger inquired whether the landscaping work would have priority over other Parks projects, and Alderman Thompson advised that it would. Alderman Keryluk stated his concern with respect to maintenance costs of the proposed landscaped median, and the City Engineer advised that the type cf shrubs to be planted would be quite maintenance-free.
