ELECTRICAL AN: STRUCTUPAL REGULATIONS iz. General Regulations: (a) Every siga shall be maintained st ali tites {n a safe coadition. (b) Every sign projecting over public property shall conform to the specifications established by the Canadian Standards Association. (e} Every elgs shall have Ite welght and the aaker‘s name peemanently attached co or painted on the exterior of the sign along with a notation of the City cf Pert Coquitlam Sign Permit number and the date of issue or renewal cf such Sign Pernice. (d) Every sign shall be properly maintained, repainted from time to tine, aad refurbished as necessary to prevent deterioration and to keep the sign in a souns condition and unblenished appearance. 13, Elecerical Regulacigos: All electric afgns shall: confors to che specifications of che “Canadian Electrical Code” an adopteg by the Canadian Standards Association; and have an easity accesaible cut-off switch on the sign body. (b) Where an electric sign has an area of tore than 1 n? (10.76 square feet), the metal used therein shall be secured to a skeleton frame, constructed ef not less than 19 om (3/4 inch) angle iror, and in order to secure rigidity, angle plates, or angle bracings shall be placed at zll corners, and shall have wherever necessary, cross-section and upright supports of the same angle iron as the frane. {c) The hanger irons in all eleceric signs shall extend io the top and to the bertom of the sign box. Such hanger irons shall be secured to the cross- section supports, and be of sufficient strength to safely support the weight of the sign. . 14. Structural Regulations: (a) No sign shall be attached to oc hung froa any buliding until all necessary wali and roof attachments have been approved by the Building Inspector. (b) ALL projecting atgne shall have at feast one main support consisting of steel cable of not less than 9.5 om (3/8 inch) in diameter as well as two other attachments to the bullding or such other supports as the Building Inspector say require. {c) The other attachzents shall be in the form of expansion bolts or their equivalent, and shail penetrate at least 152 ua (6 inches) into the wall of the building or be secured in a manner satisfactory to the Building Inspeccor. (43 No supporting cable or side guy ‘shall make an angle of less thas 30 degrees with the sign which it is supporting. (e) Bolts or Ing screws shall not be fastened to window frames. Lag doles in wolid woodwork shall not be less than 12.7 cm (1/2 inch) in diameter, and shall penetrate the woodwork to a depth of at least 76 mm (3 inches). (£) ALL cables, turn-buckles, links, bolts, screws and all devices which are used to support or which form a part of any sign shall be galvanized. (g) Turn-buckles shall be provided for all supporting cables and such turn- buckles shall have a breaking strength equivalent co that of the cable to which they are attached. {h) ALL cables 12.7 um (1/2 inch) or core in diazeter shall be provided vith suitable sleeves and two cable clips shall be provided for each cable, ard securely clauped to the slueves. (i) Where two cables are required for the nain supports of a sign, such cables shall be independently attached to the sign and to the building or other support. (J) No sign, guy, stay, or attachenent thereto shall be erected, placed, or zaintatned in such a manner as to contact or interfere with any electric light, pover, telephone or telegraph wires, or their supports. A clearance cf not less than 600 mm (1.97 feet) shall be provided between the outer edge of any sigan aad apy such wires, or their supports, and ne sign shall be attached to or obstruce the free use of any fire escape. (k) Signs in the C-1, C-2, C-3, and C-4 Zones shatl not be erected or displayed if of wood construction unless the wood has been processed or treated in a panner approved by the Building Inspector so as to substantially increase its durability and the appearance of such sign.
