Ranger re “Wind—up Carnival i * President of the Wrong Side of the Tracks Action Association, made a presentation on behalf of that organization opposing the concept of Self-serve Gas Stations, and recommending that none be permitted to operate in the City. Alderman Thompson commented that it was his understanding that already about 20% of the total number of gas stations in the City are operating as self-serve outlets, and therefore passage of the resolution would limit any further from being established. Alderman Ranger referred to the requests contained in the letter from the Mary Hill Community & Ratepayers Association, March 20th, 1976, and in response thereto, he pointed out that the first - to limit the number of gas stations in the City providing self-service - has already been dealt with through passage of the foregoing resolution; the second - to send copies of the reports and Council's action to the Union of B.C. Municipalities for distriubtion to member municipalities for their information and support - a resolution thereon was submitted by the District of Burnaby to the 1975 U.B.C.M. Convention and was passed at that time; and the third - to write the Provincial Government requesting that they give consideration to removing the influence and control that the international gas companies heve on the retail gas market in British Columbia ~ such a letter would have little effect on that situation. ture Alderman Thompson referred to the approximate 140 acres that comprise the Nature Area and the City Administrator advised, in answer to his query, that the present market value thereof is about $40,000.00 to $60,000.00 per acre. Alderman Laking referred to the clearing of trees on the Huntington Rubber Mills' property adjacent to the Coquitlam River, and to the operty suggestion of Alderman Traboulay that Mayor Campbell discuss with the Senior By-law Officer the possibility of some action being taken whereby monies for replanting these trees could be recovered, the Council expressed general agreement. Alderman Ranger referred to the Winter Wind-up Carnival held last ‘iTug-of-War at Winter weekend and stated he wished to thank the members of the Coquitlam R.C.M.P. Force for participating in the Tug-of-—War competition with members of Council and City Staff that took place during that Carnival, and he suggested that another such event could possibly be held during the May Day festivities. en { 4 Nes oa" Seaasyet
