Tha characteristics of the contaminants shall be equivalent to or better than the following opacities: Discharge smoke opacity shall not exceed 20% for longer ihan 3 minutes in any 4 hour Tinterval and shall not exceed 40% at any time. During fuet feed shutdowns of more than % hour, a variance from the above require- ment to a maximum opacity of 40% is per- mittad. The maximum duration of this vari- ance is 1 hour for shutdowns of more than 4 hours, and % hour for ail other shutdowns. For the purposes of this permit, fuel feed shutdown means a complete stoppage in the supply of wood waste to the burner, and, opacity is defined as follows: “Opacity is the degree to which the trans- mission of light is reduced or the degree to which visibility of a background as viewed through the diameter of a plume is re- duced,” (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Section 3.12, Method 9. Patterson has been a pharma- cist in Terrace for the past two years and is currently a pharmacist at Northern Healthcare. Doug, his wife Roxanne and their two children came from Kelowna to Terrace "to gain a more rounded learning,” he explains. He grad- uated from UBC in 1987, where he was president of the pharmacy undergrads. Doug became involved with the . Terrace branch of the Heart and Stroke Foundation when he served as a canvasser in last year’s cam- paign.
