The difference between the two, noted Harvie, is that the first has heat and the other’ doesn’t, The nursery has a staff of six regular positions. We hire an average of 100 people on a “when required”’ basis, Harvie noted, This means that when we need people to do the extracting of trees, for example, we hire them for the time needed. Spruce trees, pine, hemlock and cedar are raised for transplant pur- ‘poses, As for the future, Harvie said,. a cold storage unit is in the making. The purpose, he add- ed, was for immediate planting in the spring, Depending on species of trees they can be stored anywhere from three to six months from when the trees are lifted in the fall. Harvie said that a good season is expected for next year. aweeres fn \ * . + SY Group of women at the Thornhill Nursery extracting pallets trom blocks.
