Volleyball succeeds The annual Terrace and Thornhill elementary schools’ volleyball tourna- ment. attracted 14 boys’ teams and 12 girls’ teams on Nov. 14. When they finished, a total of 47 mat- ches had been played. More than 300 young- sters competed in the one- day series at Thornhill Elementary and Junior Secondary Schools under the guidance. of volunteer teacher-coaches who ap- peared as excited as the kids were. The set-up used a curl- ing bonspiel-type draw in which teams all started in ‘SA”’ flight; losing teams in the ‘‘A’’ matches drop- ped to “B” flight, and ““B* losers dropped to “Cc”? flight. Three losses resulted in elimination. Here’s a run-down of all six flights, including scores from all the games. GIRLS “A” FLIGHT All 12 teams started in ‘“*A’? and when it was over, Thornhill’s ‘‘A’”’ team emerged as cham- pions by downing Veritas 15-7, 11-15, 15-11 in the best-of-three final.
