Be seas ad NOT IMPRESSED: Marilyn Davies outside the Ke ney St. townhouse complex where Euthel Dobson lay in the cold and rain Jan. 13. n- School officials build new team SCHOOL BOARD members are preparing for a weekend of hardcore team building Feb. 13-14. Acting school superintendent Sharon Beedle has hired Peter Usher, achievement coach and owner of Performance Edge Training and Consulting services in Prince George, to help board members get along. Beedle said the board's problems are a result of the edu- cation ministry’s decision nearly three years ago to amal-. gamate Terrace and Kitimat into one school district, “We have two different organizations and groups that have come together in a marriage that wasn’t necessarily voluntary,” she said. ‘Be aware there are still people who are angry and hurting.” She said the board needs to build a working relationship and a district identity, as well as establish a common vi- sion, goal and mission, “School 82 doesn’t really have an identity yet,’’ she said. Beedle explained that some board members are resistant to change, : ‘She said Usher, who has worked with national teams and national organizations, will be able to help the board on . goal setting, - In a letter to Beedle, Usher said he will identify the board’s strengths and areas for improvement. He will also determine the pressures and challenges associated with the group’s: tasks and haw well they are equipped to meet them. . The two-day workshop will take place at the school ‘board office and cost between $3,000-4,000, Beedle said. ‘We're saving money,’ she said; ‘“we're.going-to use - this facility.” ., Ambulance Late ambulance arrival criticized A B.C. Ambulance Service official here admits paramedics here made a mistake Jan, 13 when they didn’t drive directly to an elderly Terrace woman who fell and broke her arm out- Side a Kenney St. townhouse. Frankly, no, they did not follaw the correct proce- dure,”’ said Bob Pierce, “They should have gone direclly to the address reported. ”’ He says paramedics were called after 10 a.m. Jan. 13 to help ‘‘a woman down on a sidewalk”’ at 5-3215 Ken- ney St The ambulance left the Station at Eby St. and Hwy16 and. drove west along Hwy16 to Kenney St, Instead of driving to the address called in, attendants stopped al the intersection of Hwyi6 and Kenney and looked north wp Kenney for any sign of Ethel Dobson, What they didn’t realize was that Dobson's townhouse sils in a small cul-de-sac off Kenney, out of the line of sight from the nearby intersection. The attendants then tumed south where a tain going over the CN level crossing, blocked any view south of Kenney, “They felt they could clearly see the whole of the sidewalk,’’ Pierce said. “They thought the woman was behind a train on the other side of Kenney St.’’ The attendants drove from the crossing to the overpass and south Kenney before backtracking to Dobson’s location, The incident infuriated Marilyn Davies who called the ambulance. “Why didn’t they just come to the address?’’ she said. She and city councillor Rich McDaniel said the am- bulance didn’t arrive uatil at least 20 minutes after ber call, Bui Piérce said the total elapsed time was no more than 10 minutes. ” dispatch records show the call came in at 10:02 am.
