TELEPHONE 367-5161 Our ref: 10-0-1E May 28th, 1974 To Agencies funding ambulance services: You may be avare that it is the Government's intention that the Emergency Health Services Commission will become active on or ahout July Ist this vear. The first function of the Commission will be to begin the process of funding the services that exist currently in the Province. , Because of the limited preparatory time that was available this process will necessarily be a progressive one and it is quite improbable that in any general sense the total funding can be absorbed as of July Ist. It is expected, however, that during the course of a six month period this conversion of local or other sources of funding to Provincial funding will be completed. It will be necessary to make some initial assumptions for first dispersals of funds and then to review these over a period of time and modify them as indicated. In instances where it is clear through running analyses that the initial approximations have been inappropriate, then there will, of course, be a need to make retroactive adjustment to the commencement date of July Ist. . The primary purpose of this letter is to request that the agencies currently involved, either wholly or in part, with funding these services avoid actions that assume that their involvement or participation will cease totally on July Ist. Rather, we would ask that they continue to the extent necessary to support the services in their area in the manner that they have done traditionally, but as the progressive transfer of the funding from local to Provincial responsibility occurs, they then /2
