Doli was 103 years ald on Dec, 2], 1999,.and we are looking forward to ce- lebrating his 104th birth- day this year, Harvey was born Dec. 21, 1896 in Ontario. When he was 27 years old, he and his brother-in-law Tony Hobenshicld moved. to Woodcock B.C. Harvey decided to move to B.C. afler. reading a book that had some pic- tures of farms init. He was so fascinated by the big machines used on the farms, that he decided. to move West. Harvey and the family farmed al Woodcock but with very little money. Things were pretty. tough there. Then in 1927 after many hardships, the Doll family moved to Terrace ~ so the children could get betler schooling. They lived on Brauns Island until the big flood of 1936, when they moved to the property on Park Ave- nuc, where the new medi- cal centre is today. Mrs. Caroline Doll, Harvey’s wife, worked as a midwife, delivering many Terrace babies in her home. There was no hospi- tal then, so Caroline HERE 'N THERE YVONNE MOEN worked with Dr. Brummitt and Dr. Mills with child- birth and taking care of sick people. ~ . She always had a room ready in her home for any- ane who needed care. - ‘A plaque, made by local Jim MacKay, has been placed on the third ‘floor in the new Park Ave- - nue. Medical. Centre in memory of Caroline Doll. Harvey worked ‘in. the mill and~ took half his wages in lumber, which he used to build their home on Park Avenue. Harvey. and Caroline’s daughter Marjorie (MacKay) became a re- gistered nurse and came to work in the old 10 bed Red Cross Hospital. Harvey at 103 years old is doing remarkably well. Visiting with Harvey for a few days was his daugh- ter Jean. Virginia Jones, who lives in Quesnel, and Marjorie, who lives in Victoria, _ Virginia and Marjorie also spent time with their brothers Gordon Doll and Stan Doll.
