Generosity highlights — ~ youth recreation event The second Terrace’ Foos Ball/Poo! Toumament, held at Danny’s Pool Hall on Feb. 18, had a special theme -that united- every _ one of the 80 or so tecnagers who entered the event as well as the dozen or more parents who tumed out to watch. For the teens, the most important . part of the two-hour registration session was making sure they ‘signed their name to a thank-you -card for long time Terrace resident -- Frank Vercammen. Vercammen, _ though seriously ill and unable to attend the event, put up $60 of his: own money as the top prize in the event. Most participants, though, didn’t think of his donation in terms of dollars and cents. For _ them it was more like a vote of confidence reflecting their worth in the community. As a result there wasn’t a pool . competition, ages 17-19, during this most recent fournament. Instead, the "Frank Vercammen Division" was added to the day’s events and teens between the ages. of 17 and. 19 gathered around the tables: competing for the honor of first place. In the end, the title went to Walter Nisyok while Jerry Gagnon’ and. Paul Hales. took second and third. Nisyok and - Gagnon split the cash award while Hales went home: -with two Til- licum Theatre passes, .. In the 14 to 16 age group in the pool competition, Alec : Kontic. picked up the top prize of $25 donated by Steve Kuhar. Wade. Steele and Jamie de Balinhard won the second and third prizes of free movie ‘rentals donated by the Video Stop. Jocy de . Balinhard earned $5 and a T-shirt for his win. in the junior (8-12 year old) pool division while second and third went to Andy Senger and Harry Chemko.- . In Foss competition for younger competitors, Harry Chemko and Joey de Balinhard showed they had talent for more than just pool. Chemko teamed up with John de Balinhard to win the the competi- tion and prizes of $5 and a T-shirt each while Joey. de Balinhard placed second with his partner, Victori Chemko.
