is an extremely beneficial arrangement for us. They are part of the French-language school community, and we hope that their future “graduates” will join us for kindergarten ! APEs NEWS | | KELOWNA The remarkable energy and interest of the parents of the Kelowna French-language schools is astounding officials. Thirty-one parents showed up for the annual general assembly on September 17. The newly elected board of administrators is buzzing with motivation and will represent parents extremely well, since there is not only at least one parent per school (nursery from Petits Oursons, Anse-au-Sable, KLO and KSS), but also one representative for each classroom at |’Anse-au-Sable School. A great start to the year! CAMPBELL RIVER The Campbell River French-language education program began the 2001-2002 school year on a high note with three elementary school classes and three full- time teachers (50 students are enrolled). Grades 7, 8, and 9 at Phoenix School are now well-established and the number of students continues to grow. This year, we have opened a French-language program for grades 10, 11, and 12 at Karihi School with one French course now and another for next year. Out first parents’ committee meeting took place on September 20 and we formed a new committee with Gaétan Desrochers as chair. The committee would like to thank all of the parents who have been directly or indirectly involved in the Campbell River French-language program. The annual exchange to Quebec 2002 is well underway. Heather Finlay, Quebec 2002 committee chair, sums up the project. Nearly 47 students from the community, including 6 from our Grade 6 French program, will participate in the exchange. The trip will take place February 6 to 15, 2002. The school in Quebec has not yet been determined. On the cultural side, magician Martin Tardif will visit Central School in October to give a show for the students. 1 ROSE-DES-VENTS - VANCOUVER What a joy to have a school for the return to _ Classes! For the first time since its inception, ‘ Rose-des-Vents School has a place of its own. In July 2001, the CSF bought a magnificent J = site in Vancouver (on Willow between 37" and &# 39) that French-speaking students shared with the Vancouver Hebrew Academy. This is the first year that Rose-des-Vents parents will not have to start over again to find a site for next year. Our vacation time this year will instead be spent supporting teachers and administrators so that our children can enjoy their new-found stability. For those of you unfamiliar with the adventures of Rose-des-Vents School, suffice it to say that our school has been the CSF itinerant school, with four moves in four years— never fully settled in, rarely welcome! Happily, that’s now a thing of the past. Thanks to all of the elected parents, elected officials, and agencies that helped us during our long—but successful—struggle. Also shows the children that the parents are studying and are also learning a new language”; “The course was very beneficial. Not only did it allow us to learn and practise our skills but also allowed us the opportunity to communicate with other parents.
