SUBJECT: TRAFFIC LIGHTS ON MARY HILL BYPASS -
_ PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE OF TUESDAY MAY 5, 1987

RECOMMENDATION

That the City apply to the Ministry of Trassportation and
Highways for installation of traffic signals on the Mary Hi] |]
Bypass at Coast Meridian Road and that the $15,000.00 estimated
to be the City's share of the cost be included in the 1988
capital budget.

BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS

Development of the Meridian Industrial Park South of the
Mary Hil] Bypass wil] in additional! traffic on the Coast

Any signals on arterial highways must be cost shared by
the City having jurisdiction Over the cross streets. Our share
of each signal wou'd be fifty percent. There are no funds
Provided jin the 1987 capital budget for Signals. However, any
application now is likely to result in us being billed in 1988
in any case. Therefore it would be possible for the City to
Provide for the cost in the 1988 budget.

Of the two intersections, the Coast Meridian intersection
is the most Critical as the development of the industria}
Subdivision js taking place from the Coast Meridian end. It fs
Suggested that this Signal is the one that we should apely for.
