Dear Mayor,

You are aware of the enormous sacrifice asked of our Olympic athletes
respecting the recently concluded Moscow Games. You may also know
that we have named the 1980 Canadian Olympic Team "that would have
gone", and have niounted a special program of tribute for the members

of that team.

_Attached are the names and addresses of the Team Members in your area,
together with a description of our tribute program scheduled for the
weekend of August 30 in Toronto. ;

We send this to you in the hope that you might find it both possible
and appropriate to stage a small reception or a simple press
.,conference for these fine, young athletes just prior to their
departure for Toronto. We believe Canada owes them a debt of
gratitude, and feel that a gesture of this kind on your part would not
only be fitting, but would do much to enhance the national tribute

program.

I apologize for giving you such short notice but, due to various
complications, the team selection Process has only now been concluded.
There is perhaps some saving grace in that our suggestion does not
call for an elaborate undertaking. Thank you for whatever response

you are able to make.
